Sound is good for the size of speaker, though i connect this to powered speakers so not really using the radio’s speaker that much. I placed this radio in exactly the same spot as our previous roberts dab which had always provided good reception so this gripe is based on a direct comparison. The information display for dab is very basic. I would have thought that with a colour lcd screen, they could have used fonts able to display the information clearly. But no, the text is displayed as if the screen is an old fashioned terminal from the 80’s with words being split between lines. It looks like the designers of the display don’t really know what kind of information is being broadcast. If you use menu functions to change settings (even to simply set the time) while the radio is playing, the radio turns off when you complete the setting4. When setting the box up it thought it was in the far east somewhere and displayed a time 9 hours ahead of bst. I had to manually set the time. Setting the wifi password is extremely clunky. You have to use the keys on the remote in old fashioned mobile texting mode. Except you have to press right arrow to actually select a character – 20 years ago mobile phones would accept a character automatically if you paused while cycling through the options on each button – but this baby seems to have 25 year old input logic. When you finish entering the password the box displays a message saying “disconnected from network” – making you think you entered the password incorrectly. But if you select the network ssid again it connects.

    I bought this last week, had terrible trouble with it. Got an error ‘skytune unavailable, retry later’, tried it on the office wifi and my personal hotspot, neither worked. We managed to get one local station on it but then it stopped again and we couldn’t tune anything else in leaving us stuck with one crap station. I was over and back with support for a week and they helped as best they could but they could not resolve the issue. So i bought a roberts stream 107, twice the price but it worked within minutes and was dead easy to set up.

Shame the instructions didn’t make this clear. Still haven’t got the ‘switch back on to the last station listened’ working, despite switching that setting that on several times, but we’ll get there. Just wonder why all internet radios have to be so complex to set-up and tune in, when it’s so easy on an iphone.

I just got back from my croatian holiday, where every evening i could listen to my hungarian radio show. Updateafter a few weeks of perfect operation my wr220 stopped it operation. I checked the power supply, but it turned out to be ok. Then i sent an e-mail to ocean digital customer service team detailing my problems. They will sent me a replacement soon. Actually the replacement arrived in a very short time and all works fine nownot only the wr220 is a perfect product, but the support from the ocean digital customer service team is fantastic.

    1. I don’t understand why these boxes are so expensive but this is at the bottom end (around £60) and seems ok. As listed, thousands of stations which makes selection somewhat tedious. Screen will dim completely but complicated.

    I don’t understand why these boxes are so expensive but this is at the bottom end (around £60) and seems ok. As listed, thousands of stations which makes selection somewhat tedious. Screen will dim completely but complicated.
    1. The sound is surprisingly good and rich for such a small radio. Setup is simple as long as you remember to press the left or right buttons when selecting characters on the wifi or search menus. Other reviews have commented that the radio feels plasticky or cheap but i’m not finding that the reality. True, the unit is light but the jogwheel and buttons have a solid, non wobbly feel to them. For the money, the wr220 is a bargain and a no brainer for a bedroom or kitchen and with a choice of 17000 radio stations then i’d definitely give it 5 stars.

    The sound is pretty good for the size of the speaker. It does what it says on the tin. However the user interface is a bit quirky and occasionally it won’t reconnect to my wireless, but that is easily corrected by a power off reset (unplug and plug the power cable). 4-stars because it’s a bit expensive for what it is.

    Ordered friday arrived sunday, what’s better than that. The radio was set up in a couple of minutes and soon i was listening to stations devoted to the beatles, beach boys and other sixties music. I have it at the side of the bed and to date the tv in the room hasn’t been switched on, i just listen to the radio. Easy to set up and simple to use but magnificent in operation.

    I bought this as a christmas gift for a close friends parents who live abroad. They’re in their 60s yet were able to get this setup and working without assistance. They love it and have said that it has livened up their kitchen.

    1. Bit fiddly to set up at first but you soon get the hang of it. Discovered that one of my favourite stations was not included on the station list; e-mailed karen at ocean digital and hey presto, overnight it appeared.

Good sound quality, and having higher priced internet radio from other manufacturer, have found this a good little investment. Contacted customer service and they were able to add several radio stations that i was unable to trace. And they have done their best to assist, even over the holidays.
