The dab tunes instantly and is automated, but dab ‘manual’ tuning is much more tough and is not quite like web page 10 of the forty one webpage guide. When 1 bar of radio signal is achieved by holding the “aerial” in the air and crossing fingers the result is like listening underwater to a band playing in the next town. Sparks are emitted from the power socket at the rear of the unit whenever plugging or unplugging the radio. The radio frequently freezes and will not respond to any button presses until it reboots itself.

The net result is great music playback but a deep mumble from our much loved raido 4 presenters. I’d avoid at this price as there are much better less mumbing systems out there for much less.

    Sounds great, easy to configure and dab sounds smooth and clear. It wakes you y slowly turning the volume up. Display has a dimmer function so you can set it’s brightness. And, you can set it to 45, 60 or 90 minutes but it isn’t hard set so you have to choose how long you want it on for every time. Apart from that it is perfect.

The quality is good and it’s easy to use, but after exactly a month the display has broke and won’t turn on again, so you can’t tell the time, navigate stations, read station info or anything else it’s meant to do. So as long as i only want to listen to the same channel forever and not know who is on, or what they are playing it’s fine.

    All bass and low mid range boom. Other than the sound quality this worked fine. Nice to have a big time display. But i expect better from someone like this. If you’re going to give people such low clarity sound as standard you should offer adjustable eq settings.

The bass is so extreme that it is hideous – both for music and speech and male voices are so muffled from even a short distance away as to be almost indiscernible. The sound is really annoying heard from even just outside a room for, in order to listen to speech inside a room, it’s necessary to turn up the volume. Roberts should be ashamed of putting their name to this very product with its very poor, heavy bass sound quality.

      1. Had to send it back as the sound quality was unacceptable. Certain songs sounded awesome on it though. It’s a shame there is no equalizer to adjust the levels because it made listening to the radio impossible. I love a bit of bass but it made listening to any program which had people talking unbearable. The speakers couldn’t handle the bass from the voices etc.

    Radio is packed with feature, but what lets it down is the booming from the central speaker. If the central speaker had a dampening control then it make for a great radio, by sadly i had to return it and look for something different.

      1. Nice quality, good looking radio / alarm – it’s very easy to set up & program. Unfortunately, its sound (when listening to classical music) is simply not up to usual roberts standard – though not overly unpleasant – it’s just a bit too bass-heavy and i haven’t been able to adjust it to my taste. Spoken voice is fine though. Other than that, it’s a very nice quality system with an effective (duel) alarm function that gradually increases in volume (up to your own pre-set maximum) so it wakes you gently. The backlight can be dimmed right down to an almost discernible level – for those who don’t like a bright display. To be honest, i’d give it another star if it weren’t for the high price and the heavy bass tone.
