This is an impressive performer and the sound quality excellent for the size of the radio. I use it mostly for internet radio as i live in a bad area for fm and dab/dab+ reception. Setting up on my wifi network was straightforward but rather lengthy due to the need to input pass key and other info using the rotary knob to select the numbers and letters. However it was well worth persevering and i particularly like the remote operation and easy storage of favourite channels.
Fm reception as good as any other high quality set but dab and dab+ really shine with strong clear sound and no digital burbles which appear on some other dab radios. The audio quality is a delight and the stereo sound image is remarkable for a relatively small unit. The internet radio performance is the best i’ve experienced and i have used several internet radios. It connects very quickly to the network and the range of station is amazing. The colour screen is great and gives lots of information on dab and internet. I only have 2 criticisms; bluetooth and battery power are not included which seems odd, however the add-on battery pack is great and gives plenty of listening time on a charge. I can’t recommend the roberts bluetooth adaptor as it is receive only and at least twice the price of other adaptors which are both receive and transmit. If you want to use bluetooth headphones you can’t do that with the roberts adaptor. I highly recommend this radio.
I bought this unit to replace a pure evoke 3 that just refused to connect to any of my routers for more than a couple of hours. After all the reviews this radio looked like the best bet but after a week i am not so sure. Audio quality when it is network connected is very good but it drops the network connection every hour or so and requires a power off/on to reconnect, though sometimes it refuses to at all. If that happens i will drag it into the office alongside the main router and after entering the passcode again it will work on the 4 or 5 attempt. Then lose it after a few hours. Faults seen so far in internet radio mode:-1. Screen freeze/lock-up which required a power cycle to clear. ‘failed to obtain ip address from dhcp’ – with a full router signal. ‘incompatible data format’thinking it may be a hh3 router wifi channel issue i have shifted the allocated channel from 1 through to 11 to no avail. Tried the radio again tonight 6ft from the router. Works 100% if wired direct, after 2 hours in wifi mode it dropped signal and would not reconnect even after re-entering the router details. It is going back for exchange and i’ll see how the replacement fares?update 18/5/16the new 93i had the same issues so there must be something more common to this. Changed this today for an asus dsl-n55u (from amazon via prime) and the radio connected first time and has now been on uninterrupted for 2 hours. If it ever connected before it would drop out regularly before kicking the connection bucket totally. So fingers crossed?rating revised for now ;).
Arrived extremely quickly and i love it. Already own the previous model and love that but this is even better having an alarm. The sound is as great as other reviewers have mentioned.

Fantastic sound, way better than i expected. Immediately connected to my wireless network and nas. Picks up digital radio perfectly and the internet radio stations are endless. Great design to, looks wonderful and when you turn the volume up, my god what a sound. Oh yeah and also plays perfectly fro usb. The only minor niggle i have is that the battery is not included in the base price.
This is a v high quality speaker that is also a networked radio. It is the sound that makes it – lovely looks as well. Reception is better than the dab radio it preceded (john lewis from memory). Iphone / ipad plug in great and you get the sound benefits. We listen to internet radio and podcasts on it as well – directly from the network. You can link any spotify premium to it, it just picks it up from the network, but then you leave with the device (eg phone – as i did to go to the shop) and it keeps on playing the spotify playlist, even though you aren’t on the network anymore – what kind of sorcery is this?anyway – if you are looking at this and you are taking the time to read this and get this far – buy it, you won’t be disappointed.
I bought this as it was a what hifi category winner. I know that roberts is a highly respected make and their products have a reputation for good quality but the size and performance of this unit were a very please surprise for me. Acoustically it sounds great. I like the tone and the definition of music played on it and it has opened for us all the possibilities and choice of internet radio. We live is an area with poor fm and dab reception so to have this in the house is great news. I like music and listen for the detail and phrasing of the passages. This unit ticks all the boxes for me.
All qualities have already been mentionned by most users about this extraordinary device. Here is my personal experience along with 3 photos. I have:fitted the 2 big buttons with some rubber seals, so that they are bigger, nonslip and easier to turn. Connected a very good digital recorder (sony icd-lx30). Connected this radio system to my hi-fi equipment. The global result is a lot better than i had ever expected .
I have had two roberts stream 83i radios for some years, an excellent radio, especially if you are interested in internet radio. When my daughter needed a new radio, i bought her the update to mine, the roberts stream 93i. Like the 83i it was easy to set up, and when you have, the sound quality is very good. Once you have done the initial set up, you can scan for dab stations, and program your favourites onto pre-sets, the same applies to fm, and internet radio stations, you frequently like to listen to. As it is wi-fi enabled, you can link it to your computer network, and play any music you have stored on your computer, through the roberts stream 93i, in any location that is in range of your wireless router, there is also an ethernet socket. The radio comes with a very small remote control that works very well. The radio is mains electricity operated, but you can buy a battery pack, that you will not need if you only use the radio at home.
Really, compared to so many other smaller radios, it has a nice sound with good low end so music is good and chat is good without beign all high end and hard on the ears. There are a lot of reviews saying it can’t do the bbc web broadcasts. I’ve had good detailed emails back and forth from roberts about this area. So – the only thing it won’t do right now is if one connects it to the internet and tries to play all of the recorded bbc stuff in the highest quality level. Just using the aerial, plays everything. Or any stuff from anyone else, aerial or internet basedsome of the bc web content is done in low def. As others have said in lots of detail (so no need to repeat here) the bbc changed the way the broadcast the recorded content. So its only recorded bbc content that can’t be had or can’t be had in the higher quality rates. Roberts have said once the bbc finally picks a format it will use going forward, they can release an update for the radio software to be able to play it.
I was going to buy another brand when a friend told me i should go for this radio instead. Easy to use, lots of equaliser settings to ensure the sound is as i like it, a great remote control, a wonderful link to spotify so i can just play through the radio with a touch on my smart phone, a pause facility. Thoroughly recommended by me (and i’m not that easy to please).
Good on dab , fm and countless station on internet. You can store up to 30 presets on each of these which is more than enough. Very easy to set up and sounds great for it’s size. No bluetooth unfortunately but you can play your favourite mp3s via memory stick socket at rear of unit. A good buy and highly reccommended. Got a bluetooth receiver for less than £10 for use with this radio , really good sounding via the auxiliary socket.
I have lived with this for four months before writing this review, and i do not intend to cover ground that has already been more than adequately covered by others. Hopefully the following will be useful to purchasers. A) first, if you have a tablet or smartphone download the free roberts connectr app from the app store. This gives you all the essential functionality of the knobs and buttons on the front of the radio so you can sit and control your radio from your chair. You can search for stations/podcasts, change mode, adjust volume, and most of the other things you can do from the panel without having to get up to do it. Very useful if the radio is not by your side. The only thing i would like to do this way, but cannot as the app does not support it, is to change/add preset stations. I had no problems installing the app on my nexus 7, but some reviewers of the app appear to have had difficulty. My tip would be to turn off bluetooth before installing the app, which works wirelessly (the radio has no bluetooth capability anyway). Roberts don’t advertise this app very well but i consider it an essential (and free) add-on.
This is the best thing i’ve bought in years. Well worth every penny, and would advise anyone who is thinking about buying a new radio is to buy this one. This is a magic box, match it up with your internet router, and you have thousands of radio channels you can choose from.
The radio arrived well packaged. Setting up is a bit of a fiddle with the menus however once you have the hang of it it goes fine. I deducted one star because when i got the radio and went through the very comprehensive manual it was only then i found that if your router is a wep (which mine is. Netgear) wep keys which use phrases as a password are not accepted by the sound system. This should have been made clear in the amazon blurb. Fortunately i have a wpa key router with the standard key of letters and numbers but it is a router with very poor signal in the location where i want to use the radio. I get internet radio with a very poor signal. I am in ireland, just outside dublin, living in a very solid built house so forget dab the fm is good and sound wise it is fine but obviously not the quality of an expensive hifi. I have another roberts radio still working well after many years so i do recommend this brand. They are well built and you get what you pay for.
And in my opinion, unbeatable. I already own three roberts stream 83i dab/internet radios and have enjoyed their superb sound quality and features. Was extremely hacked off when last. Fm withdrew their service but delighted when i became aware of the roberts stream 93i which offered spotify as an alternative. Persuaded my wife to purchase one from amazon as my christmas present. It arrived promptly early december but i was not allowed to play with it until christmas day. The notable improvements in my view are:- sound quality improved with better filtering of a slight interference from wifi experienced with previous model- 40 pre-sets each for dab, fm and internet radio- the two alarm settings easier to access- excellent colour display with artwork- fade in of chosen mode for the alarmsif i’m hyper critical, there’s a couple of negative comments:- the new fabric covering for the stereo speakers will probably be susceptible to damage- there’s still no “back” button on the remote.
I was going to give this five stars, the audio high quality is fantastic for a device this size, and navigating the menus is intuitive, but the radio has a tendency to freeze up fairly on a regular basis (although this is possibly a broadband link difficulty). More significantly, the bbc has just modified its audio streaming format so you can’t listen to podcasts this is not a criticism of the radio specially, it is really not roberts’ fault, but it does imply that the machine’s functionality is far more restricted than 1 could possibly fairly count on.
I selected this radio to both enhance our lives and also to supply some practical routes for escape from the incessant and repetitive ‘christmas’ tunes on mainstream wireless stations more than the festive period, bah humbugit’s so really quick to established up straight out of the box and my only criticism would be that the recommendations for incorporating preset stations, other than the to start with five are not as obvious as they may possibly be. But there is an totally free app that will help in all respects and its called undok and it is suggested by roberts someplace in their blurb but not of course so. Also irritatingly a spotify premium account is expected to make that streaming company readily available and its £9. 99 for every month immediately after the preliminary three months for £9. ninety nine, so do not neglect to terminate it prior to the three months is up. So in the initial couple of several hours i have experienced radio two, radio 5 live sport further, many incarnations of radio caroline by means of the internet and have streamed my outdated and significantly cherished sixties/seventis albums.
Cosmetically it is really really a deviation from roberts common radio style. It reminds me of a piece of scientific kit – a marine radio, a geiger counter, or a ww2 communications receiver the ex-military surplus retailers utilised to flog in the goldhawk road in london in the 1950s. But functionally it will work a deal with and the audio is beautiful and comprehensive, with exceptional bass. Armed with the radio, the distant that arrives with it, and my samsung phone i am obtaining several hours of listening enjoyment from the comfort and ease of my sofa. It bugs me however, that roberts have offered a battery pack and bluetooth functionality as include-ons when evidently they should really be integral in just the radio. But the rationale is apparent – a somewhat brash profits prospect for roberts. But why have these include-ons as large unattractive warts that attach to the rear of the receiver?. That apart, it’s a charming radio, and roberts, for me, is the gold regular.
Having owned this excellent machine for a handful of months now i am nonetheless amazed just about every time i hear to it. Spotify connect functions brilliantly, providing you are a quality member, controlled by using the spotify mobile app. All three with forty presets each readily available. Attach a usb memory with up to 128gb for media playback. With line in and out, additionally a headphone socket this detail is so functional. It also appears superb, there are a couple of preset equaliser selections readily available, and the bass and treble every single have the alternative of getting altered up or down. I purchased the white version for in the kitchen and soon after listening to it acquired a next set for the bed room.
The stream 93i is run by the venice 6. 5 fs2026-5 module from frontier silicon as considerably as i know, so i was anticipating twin-band wifi (802. 11b/g/n/a), but to my shock the device only scans the two. Apparently, two other spotify link compatible radios from roberts (the stream 107 and istream two) with the similar venice module do have twin band wifi capability, so ideally the 5ghz band can be enabled in a future firmware update. Another aspect that i’m lacking is a mute button. (even that should be doable for roberts to add in a long term update, e. By a extensive push of the manner button. )nevertheless, as lots of some others have stated in this article, it can be a good internet radio and really encouraged.
This is the ideal internet radio i have owned. The established-up is simple and intuitive and the radio has the advantage over other roberts styles that it is possible to shop quite a few far more stations in addition to the five on the buttons on the radio/remote – some 40 in all. The audio is amazing on internet radio – on the german and italian channels i like to hear to it is tricky to consider that the entire voices and wealthy musical appears i listen to are coming into my home via the cell phone line. The dab tuner picks up a prosperity of stations and an advantage of the product over some other internet radios is that in this working day of streaming it still has a usb port. The usb port permits me to plug in the audiobook variations of the german and italian books i am looking through. The radio is excellent for my wants. A weak point other individuals might want to be aware of is that the fm receiver is not as sensitive as one may well desire. If i want to hear to bbc radio three or 4 on fm there is a little bit of a hiss (not existing on bbc radio merseyside). Alright, there is dab and that is good but the relative weak spot of the fm is a feature of some of the other roberts items (e. The in-the-method-of-remaining-discontinued stream 207) and it is a disgrace they are permit down by this. I dwell in south liverpool – barely distant – and have had other units that can select up a crystal-obvious sign on fm a lot more greatly. All in all, a fantastic products – but if you need to have the fm, be aware.
