    I have been stuck between choosing the sonos play 5 and the apple homepod for a while. Without a doubt the sonos play 5 wins hands down in every game. The homepod is terribly quiet even when on max volume (sonos one even beats the homepod). I looked for something with good punch, bass and clarity. Having tried both the sonos play 5 and the homepod at the local stores, the sonos play 5 ticks all boxes. I have all my songs stored on my iphone (i don’t use streaming services) and it flawlessly syncs the music across quickly when first setting up the speaker. The sound quality is amazing – enough to fill the living room with high quality sound. I like my music loud and this is just perfect.

    What can i say that others haven’t already said – nothing so i’ll simply enforce what others have said. Small, well built, heavy speaker which looks aesthetically pleasing. The performance is superb with bass that shakes the room. Can’t possibly play on full volume they’re so powerful. Initial set up was a doddle and took minutes. The installation to the computer was difficult using line in. The problem was not sonos but my avast security software. It refused to let the sonos software to set up. Once disabled then no problem. A quick tweak in avast settings and sorted.

    I replaced a relatively high end set up. Well, pmc ob1 speakers tri amped into arcam fmj kit. And am i happy – well, very much so, yes i can have superb sound (after a good run in) at the push of a button without huge tower speakers dominating a sw london home. I am happy, as is the wife (understatement). They will never match the set up i had but are surprisingly good and use little space. They are clear, full, easy to set up and far better than the old play 5 which i have one of and dislike no regrets here.

    1. I thought hard about spending so much on what seemed to be just a speaker. It cost a lot more than my previous hi-fi system which consisted of a dab radio & hdd but i’m well impressed. A relative newcomer to spotify, the sound quality from this piece of equipment blows me awaymuch superior to anything i’ve owned for years. I can’t believe music streaming sounds so goodhighly recommended.

After receiving it, setting it up and pressing play, i was just left underwhelmed by the sound. That’s not to say it sounds bad, it doesn’t, it sounds good, but equally, it doesn’t sound incredible. And considering the size and price, it needed to. The integration is very smart, and the sonos app is lovely, i loved the multiple sources it’d speak to and play from but really, the thing it needed ot nail was sound. I just found too much bass ruined it for me – even when tweaking the settings. So i had to return it, and my quest goes one – i think though i might be expecting too much from something too small as my experience with a piece of bang and olufsen kit was quite similar.

    Bought to add to my current sonos network (3 x s5). It’s a lot more expensive than its predecessor (the s5), but it is also much more capable from a sound perspective. I prefer the physical controls of the original, however build quality is excellent and sound quality is even better. If you can afford it, take the plunge, you will not regret it.

      1. Awesomei thought it would be good but it has exceeded my expectations. Easy to set up and the sonos apps are great – sonos version of youtube is a great addition. The sound quality is crystal clear and the unit itself looks clean and modern.
