Yamaha WX030 MusicCast Wireless Speaker : Powerful, small speakers that are easy to use and have plenty of bass.

Sounds great, easy to set up. Worth playing around with the levels against your music type to get the right sound (bass particularly high so was initially disappointed with a lot of 70s rock – zepplin, bowie, etc, as the sound felt very compressed. However, after really upping the higher and medium range on the speakers, they’ve performed beautifully). Will definitely get a second speaker the take advantage of the pairing ability. For a fairly small speaker,, it fills a moderately large room very well. Like many single speakers it performs better if played loud (so you sometimes need to compromise on the depth of sound if you want it quieter – something i suspect would be overcome if paired as a stereo system). Links into my musiccast sound system perfectly.

Product is good – good sound, and the the control app is nice (you can customise it to your needs) yamaha have released the web api as well so you can control it with other controllers (like home automation) if you wanti bought it from atlantic shopping who have been dreadful.

Yamaha wx-030 wireless speaker quick review by mark2410brief: yamaha takes aim at sonos. Well unless you count the controller apps. Oh there is a cable cover thingy too. It is a heavy, solid feeling bit of kit. Visually and to the touch i could find no issues. Aesthetics: hmm the white looks all right but i think maybe the black would be nicer. The light sort of silvered top made the controls are to see. Overall it mostly just made no visual impact on me, i’d forget it was there. Sounds: hearty, it’s got a bit of a big old hump in the bass, it can’t really do proper depth but it’s got a beefy thump in the middling to upper bass ranges.

Got this speaker to add to the one i already had. Great sound and so easy to use.

  • Awesome sound. It generates so much bass for such
  • Love this. Particularly amazing if you already have Yamaha kit – MusicCast is so simple and great to use.
  • Powerful, small speakers that are easy to use and have plenty of bass.

  • Make sure this fits
    by entering your model number.
  • Wifi, Bluetooth Airplay & DLNA
  • 30 Watts – 9cm Woofer 3cm tweeter
  • Wall Mounting solution built in
  • touch sensitive buttons
  • Supports streaming services including Spotify

Works well enough but a lot of the streaming services aren’t available in the uk. Would’ve been nice to have a couple of free ones like lastfm or jango.

The wireless speaker market offers plenty of choice, so i was interested to see how yamaha’s new product compares to others in a similar price bracket, such as the panasonic all3 wireless speaker system (white). [update – a couple of years later and the panasonic all3 speaker has stopped working, which seems to be a not uncommon problem with that model. The yamaha is still going strong. ]the first test comes with setup; as is often the case with these systems you have to download an ios/android app (called multicast) to your smart phone first and run the setup from there. The instructions provided by the app are clear, but it took me three goes to get the speaker to connect successfully to the wifi. That being said, it’s a lot smoother and less fiddly than the panasonic setup. The multicast app is also pretty good; responsive, clean design and with the added bonus of a simple equalizer function to allow you to tune the sound to your preference and your room’s accoustics (note that you have to go into the “song playing” page on your multicast app to access the equalizer – it’s not terribly obvious where to find it). It integrates well with spotify premium (not the free service, take note). Again a better experience than the panasonic. In terms of design the speaker is compact and robust, but the controls are terrible; they are touch-sensitive (rather than raised) and are incredibly difficult to see on a very similar-coloured background unless you shine a bright light on them.

A bit expensive for what it is, but works well.

Fast delivery and good perch i like it.

I have two of these to operate as a stereo pair in my kitchen. I find the sound very good for small speakers but often the soundstage seems corrupted as one speaker doesn’t keep up with the other and dropouts occur. Moving around the room (me not the speaker) seems to interrupt the sound despite a good wi-fi reception.

Great sound, easy to install and link with.

I’ve had this for a couple of weeks. Sound quality is excellent for the size. Unlike the other reviewer that states that there is no eq – there is indeed an eq which u access in the app on your phone or tablet. I bought for internet radio because i have very poor signal where i live. Also streaming directly from spotify napster etc is useful. It has limitations and sometimes it would be useful if you could have more controls on the unit itself and an auxiliary input may come in handy but never the less i am very pleased and now have 3 of these. I listened to the bose unit which is £280 and this sounds as good if not better.

Setup failed the first time round, but that may have been network issues. Second time was smooth and the phone app and itunes link work perfectly, sound quality is great, fills a fairly large room with good sound.

Great little speakers,i have two paired in stereo, sound is good for such a compact size, sound great at high and low volumes and they are great quality as you would expect from yamaha,i would have given 5 stars if they had batteries which made them more portable, other than that i’m really pleased with my purchase .

I sold my sonos play 1 for this, as could not justify the crazy prices for a sonos soundbar and sub to go with it in my front room. So bought this for the kitchen, and the yamaha ysp1600 soundbar a fraction of sonos price. This speaker is comparable to the sonos 3 which is £300 and is bluetooth compatible, it will even send to a none yamaha speaker. Only downside it does not have many streaming services.

It generates so much bass for such a small device, that i had to turn the bass downonly 4 stars, because i bought this to go with my rn602 amp, with the intention of streaming vinyl to the kitchen, which yamaha say they’ll do; but there is a delay between what’s been played in the living room and what’s in the kitchen, which sounds horrendous if you’re standing between the two rooms (like at a party). I’ve been on the phone with yamaha support who acknowledge that it’s an issue, that may or may not be fixes in a future firmware update. I want to be clear though, that this delay only exists when streaming external sources (vinyl, cd player, tv, etc. If you’re playing internet radio, or bluetoothing from a phone, then it streams to multiple rooms perfectly in sync.

I am always a bit afeard of technology and looking at the instructions gives me a mild shudder. But i downloaded the musiccast controller app to my tablet and it was so simple to get it up and running. The sound quality is more than acceptable and no speaker wobbles when high powerful notes during opera playback. It is mono and and use the app to control treble and bass;i am happy with what i am hearing. It is for everyday music (e. Wallpaper) and not hi-fi playback and it does the job well. The app is very good for choosing artist, album or genre. The unit is plain black and simple. If wall-mounted it would just resemble a regular speaker (although you would need to allow for proximity to a mains power point.

This is a wireless speaker that can be additional to your network to enjoy audio fed from other devices or linked to from bluetooth. I have analyzed each of these strategies utilizing an iphone 6s. The bluetooth link was relatively effortless, you push the relationship button on the best and it seems in the bluetooth checklist on the cell phone. To location it on your network is a small included and in my expertise a small a lot more flaky, which is why i have awarded 4 stars and not five. You have to obtain a yamaha connection application and employing this did not go so smoothly. I ran the software package and followed the recommendations but it could not locate the speaker, i then had to go away the software program and hook up to the speaker, then go back in the computer software and input community names and passwords. I tried on the 5ghz band initially and it basically crashed the software program. I experimented with the next time and had to join once again to the speaker’s own wifi connection, but it took a couple of goes and a electricity on and off on the speaker to display up. I got there in the stop and was able to configure it to the two. Soon after that it was effortless for the rest of the evening connecting by way of airplay. Even so up coming time i came to use it, it did not exhibit up in the airplay record and i experienced to go via the entire sorry link dance all over again. I hope this isn’t required every time i link but it could possibly be, third time no, fourth time of course. Songs smart the speaker is effective quite effectively. It is loud plenty of for a excellent sized bedroom and has confined eq by using the app.

I am editing this as i have sorted it out. I will depart the original evaluate and amend at the end. This is a huge disappointment. It seems to be great and is rather loud, but there it ends. Even in daylight it is nigh difficult to see the controls, and at night time you are unable to obtain them as they do not gentle up and there is no touch to come to feel. There is soooo a lot bass that songs sounds absolutely muffled and talking is tricky to make out. And there is no way to handle tone – not on the speaker, nor in the application. If you pay attention via spotify there is no eq balance there either. This is regrettably the worst acquire i have produced.

Excellent audio high-quality, really joyful.

Works well whilst i have not labored out how to get it to hook up to the tv set which is in a different place connected to a musiccast soundbar. Also striving to function out how to use net radio ?. I at the moment have to stream radio from my cellphone to it. Not certain if there is some way of managing the foundation and treble ?. Musiccast is a pretty challenging method.

Negative seem, not what you wait around to listen to from yamaha, imagined to buy five units, bought a single for sample, no way i will acquire the rest.

Definitely fantastic audio from little speaker. It does want to be plugged in will not fail to remember but can be forgiven due to quality audio.

I’ve actually mounted this outside, under a large lean-to roof, at the start of my garden. It’s a beautiful design and sits perfectly on the wall. The musiccast app takes it to another level. I’ve got an existing yamaha amp, and as such i can choose any combination of rooms to play anything in. So i can have a movie in the lounge, spotify in the dining room and radio outside. Or i can tap one button and put the same in all or any, and it synchronises the timing of the music so as you walk through the house, its seamless. The price is so cheap compared to sonos kit, and does such a great job. I heave sonos elsewhere but rate this equally well.

      1. The bass are a little bit too much for me, and i’m quite upset not being able to properly configure it. Presets go weird sometimes so i need to power off and on again. Aesthetics : quite pretty and minimalist. Doesn’t take too much space. Can be hooked to the wall if needed.

    1. I’ve got this in the kitchen but it pairs well with the musiccast gear in the livingroom when wanted. Simple app so we can listen to all music including nas storage.

    1. Impressive sound for its size, simple to setup, options to wall mount or connect with ethernet cable. Best used as part of a multiroom system. With one of these in the kitchen linked to my living room speakers using yamaha’s musiccast system it synchronises the playback perfectly. Already considering getting another one for additional rooms. An excellent accessory to an existing system or a great standalone smart speaker.

    1. Was a little tricky to set up, as i first had to plug into ethernet and update the firmware before the android setup would work correctly. Whilst i’m reasonably tech-savvy, this might not have been obvious for others. In fact, it caused me quite a bit of frustration. I have this speaker as a standalone unit in the kitchen to replace a rather pathetic radio which my wife purchased. The sound is really full, given its size and it maintains a good sound with the volume ramped up. It’s a quality unit for its size and footprint, with a surprising level of base. Obviously it’s not stereo, but a second unit would be easy enough to configure. Perhaps it is a little pricey, but it does sound good and if you have other musiccast devices it makes sense. I would have given 5 stars if the setup had been easier. Imho at least on par with competition, if not better.

Works well although i have not worked out how to get it to connect to the tv which is in another room connected to a musiccast soundbar. Also trying to work out how to use internet radio ?. I currently have to stream radio from my phone to it. Not sure if there is some way of controlling the base and treble ?. Musiccast is a fairly complicated system.

      1. This is a wireless speaker that can be added to your network to play music fed from other devices or connected to from bluetooth. I have tested both of these methods using an iphone 6s. The bluetooth connection was fairly effortless, you press the connection button on the top and it appears in the bluetooth list on the phone. To place it on your network is a little involved and in my experience a little more flaky, which is why i have awarded 4 stars and not 5. You have to download a yamaha connection app and using this didn’t go so smoothly. I ran the software and followed the instructions but it couldn’t find the speaker, i then had to leave the software and connect to the speaker, then go back in the software and input network names and passwords. I tried on the 5ghz band first and it simply crashed the software. I tried the second time and had to connect again to the speaker’s own wifi connection, but it took a few goes and a power on and off on the speaker to show up. I got there in the end and was able to configure it to the 2. After that it was effortless for the rest of the evening connecting via airplay. However next time i came to use it, it didn’t show up in the airplay list and i had to go through the whole sorry connection dance again. I hope this isn’t needed every time i connect but it might be, third time no, fourth time yes. Music wise the speaker works pretty well. It is loud enough for a good sized bedroom and has limited eq via the app.
